Improving Teaching and Learning Through Research

To keep themselves relevant, educators at institutions of higher education must consciously reflect on the way they teach, as well as the ways in which their learners learn. In particular, Professor Andrew Brown believes that the practice of basing one's pedagogical approach on observations and findings derived from his or her teaching experiences will become increasingly important for pedagogical innovation as well as to ensure quality in teaching and learning. In his presentation, Prof Brown will share his experience as a practitioner-researcher in bringing his research findings back into the teaching and learning context. Drawing upon examples from his research at Singapore's Institute of Adult Learning as well as the Institute of Education at the University of London, Prof Brown will outline ways in which UniSIM associates may create a community of practice, by sharing their experiences and outcomes that arise from their involvement in practitioner research.
